Reducing a file's MB size is one of the most common tasks for anyone sharing documents, photos, or videos. This guide explains the exact method for every file type.
The Key Principle: Match Your Method to Your File Type
Different file types respond differently to compression. The right approach depends on what's inside your file.
Reducing Image MB Size
Images (JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF) can be compressed by reducing image quality and stripping metadata. Switching to WebP format gives the smallest sizes at equivalent visual quality. In CompressAndGo, type your target size in KB (for example 1024 for 1MB) and select WebP as the output format.
Reducing PDF MB Size
PDFs with embedded images shrink significantly when those images are recompressed. A 50MB scanned PDF can often drop to under 2MB. Type your target KB in CompressAndGo, drop your PDF in, and the AI engine handles everything automatically. For the deepest reduction, enable Max Compression mode.
Reducing Video MB Size
Videos are compressed by reducing the bitrate, resolution, or both. CompressAndGo uses FFmpeg in your browser to compress MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, and more — all without uploading your file. Choose the Balanced or Max Compress preset depending on how small you need the file.
Converting MB to KB for the Target Field
If you know the MB target, multiply by 1024 to get KB. Examples: - 5 MB = 5120 KB - 10 MB = 10240 KB - 20 MB = 20480 KB - 25 MB = 25600 KB
Type this value directly into the KB input field in CompressAndGo.

All compression runs inside your browser. No file is ever uploaded. No account or subscription required.
